Job Summary:

The Vice President, Creative (Visual Merchandising & Store Design) is responsible for establishing the vision, to overseeing all aspects of the Shiseido Americas Print Creative, Visual Merchandising & Store Design Shared Services organization, delivering excellence in all aspects of design and execution.  Overseeing multiple brands: Shiseido, Cle De Peau, Hermes, Dolce & Gabbana, Tory Burch, Narciso Rodriguez, and Issey Miyake.  The role will collaborate with global brand stakeholders in Japan, Europe and the US, US Marketing/Sales/Procurement/Digital teams, and retailer partners.  Brand scope may evolve in the future as Shiseido Americas’ brand portfolio evolves.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and oversight to Creative/VM Shared Services team, and ensure there is the delivery of consistent excellence in the following key domains:
    • Print Creative: Develop designs in partnership with global Creative teams and Digital Creative team that are luxurious, fresh, and modern.  Scope ranges from utilizing designs from global offices, making adaptations, and some concept/design.
      • Packaging development: concept/design, technical design, work closely with Production team
      • Gift with Purchase (GWP) development: concept/design, technical design, work closely with Production team
      • Asset Creation: Manage schedule and budget for photoshoots, selecting photographers/stylists, creating mood boards, competitive research, 2D renderings, being on-set during photoshoots, photography editing, cropping etc.
    • VM Design: Develop VM designs that deliver an engaging, on-brand experience and drive shopper discovery.
      • 3D design of VM displays, planograms and guidelines including full line tester units, open-sell systems, launch units and promotional displays, visual week programs, window designs, brand enhancements, and regional meeting design needs.
      • 2D design of VM graphics based on brand assets and copy. Graphics include: launch unit and promotional display visuals, open-sell graphics, planograms, design renderings and presentation materials.
    • VM Project Management: Ensure VM projects are delivered on time and on budget, following a consistent process across brands.
      • Main point of contact and communication for all brands
      • Ensure briefs are complete
      • Request products from brands for development
      • Manage feedback and approvals
      • Track timelines/deliverables and troubleshoot issues to ensure on-time delivery
      • Manage VM budgets
      • Manage communications with Global HQ for regional needs
    • Store Design: Liaise closely with global Store Design teams for each brand to deliver an engaging, on-brand consumer experience with a complete understanding of the brand’s codes, retailer guidelines, specific channels, and localization of customers.
      • Specify materials, finishes, and construction details with vendors and general contractors
      • Approve construction drawing sets, provide feedback on millwork, and manage punch list
  • Bring innovation and new technologies to brands; maintain knowledge of competitive designs and market trends/developments
  • Collaborate with US-based Global VM teams (NARS, Tory Burch, Drunk Elephant) to drive best practices throughout Shiseido Americas
  • Oversee annual and quarterly planning processes, managing brand requests against team capacity
  • Drive clarity in roles & responsibilities and processes between team and brand stakeholders

Working Relationships/Key Stakeholders:

  • Various US functions across multiple brands:
    • Marketing
    • Sales
    • Communications
    • Education & Training
    • Digital Creative
    • Global VM for Shiseido, CPB, and Fragrances (Tokyo and Paris-based)
  • Various global brand teams in Tokyo, Europe, and the US
  • US Procurement (responsible for feasibility, value engineering, prototyping, bidding/POs, tracking production, and overall vendor management)
  • Retailer VM/Store Design counterparts

Financial Accountability:

  • Oversee Creative (VM & SD) Shared Services budget (fixed cost and T&E)
  • Partner closely with each brand in managing annual project budgets

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • 12+ years of experience in Creative, Visual Merchandising and Store Design with strong technical knowledge of display engineering and manufacturing
  • Experience in prestige/luxury retail across multiple channels (department store, open sell)
  • Experience leading a shared service team; customer service-oriented
  • Exceptional communication skills, and able to influence across multiple stakeholders and levels within the organization. Previous experience working across complex multiple stakeholder relationships a must
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership skills: team spirited; able to mentor and develop team members
  • Highly collaborative, driven, and energetic
  • Understands spatial relationships, how customers shop and how to communicate brand strategies to customers in new and exciting ways
  • Highly proficient with 3D and 2D software programs e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Auto Cad
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; high attention to detail
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Merchandising, Design, Marketing and/or Engineering
