Title:  Manager, Product Development - Complexion (bareMinerals)

Job Summary:
The Manager of Global Product Development, Complexion, will manage and support the Global Product Development functions for the Complexion category for all regions. The Manger will collaborate with Global Brand Marketing to deliver robust and innovative product pipeline.  The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of Product Development fundamentals, experienced in formulations, excellent color eye, good communicator and presentation skills, and works well with cross functional teams.  This role will manage one direct report a specialist, and will provide ongoing training and mentorship within the scoop of product development.  The Manager will work in collaboration with the Executive Director on category strategy and concepting, and provides a strong partnership throughout all phases of product development.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for the development and tracking of all new products/promotional concepts
  • Helps execute the development of innovative formula textures, shades, and aesthetics with high quality that are relevant to the brands DNA while meeting global market needs
  • Develops formula claims by working closely with R&D and Contract Manufacturers
  • Creates product briefs including product concepts and benchmarks
  • Travel onsite to in-house R&D and outside labs to meet product approvals milestones when needed
  • Attend bulk trials and first productions for new launches when required
  • Oversee batch approvals and maintenance of all product standards
  • Manages Regulatory and the Technical Information Group to ensure formulas meet global compliance and testing requirements
  • Manages internal, consumer and clinical testing with the Technical Information Group and compile test results
  • Collaborates with the Technical Information Group on new ingredients and claims
  • Partners closely with Marketing, Packaging, Operations, Creative, Sales, Education, Global Communications to ensure key milestones are met for flawless launch execution
  • Leads product innovation review to identify new trends in category product format, ingredients, delivery systems and technology.
  • Manages the category to turn new product innovations and concepts, and introduce relevant solutions to customer pain points and assortment gaps
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the global cosmetics business and entire bareMinerals portfolio and strive to develop and advance category products
  • Attend trade shows for manufacturer sourcing and generation of ideas
  • Monitor and evaluate vendor performance
  • Drive necessary course correction to ensure deliverables will be met
Qualifications & Competencies:
  • Bachelors degree required
  • 5-7 years of total work experience
  • 4-5 years of beauty product development experience; must have experience developing color formulas; prestige brand experience is a plus
  • Must be capable of managing and developing direct report(s) where relevant
  • Organized, detail oriented, resourceful, and able to juggle multiple projects at once
  • Shows initiative to drive results and solve problems, and always be counted on to follow through
  • Moves easily and comfortably between quantitative analytics and marketing creativity
  • Able to work independently and with cross-functional teams in a fast moving/changing environment
  • Able to build, foster, and nurture strong relationships and gain the trust and respect of cross-functional teams stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Testing of application and use of cosmetic and skin care products that may contain fragrances, AHAs and/or other active or non-active ingredients
  • Keen ability to detect nuances in formulations and to describe them verbally and in writing
  • Deep fluency and skill with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint
