Business Controller
MAIN PURPOSE
The main purpose of the business controller role is to oversee the financial activities of the business, providing accurate and timely financial information to support decision-making, optimize performance, and ensure the company's financial health and stability. The business controller helps senior management understand the financial implications of business decisions, develops and monitors financial plans and budgets, analyses variances, and provides strategic recommendations to drive profitability and growth. By overseeing financial planning, reporting, analysis, and compliance, the business controller plays a key role in helping the company achieve its financial goals and objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Planning and Analysis: Developing and managing budgets, forecasting financial performance, analysing variances, and providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Financial Reporting: Compiling and analysing financial data, preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Cost Management: Monitoring and controlling costs, identifying opportunities for cost savings, and optimizing resource allocation to maximize profitability.
- Performance Measurement: Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs), tracking business performance metrics, and providing regular reports to management to evaluate the company's financial health.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborating with senior management to develop long-term financial strategies, identify growth opportunities, and support business expansion initiatives.
- Risk Management: Assessing financial risks, implementing internal controls, and recommending strategies to mitigate risks and ensure financial stability.
- Business Partnering: Working closely with cross-functional teams such as sales, marketing and operations to provide financial insights, support decision-making, and drive business growth.
- Compliance and Audit: Ensuring compliance with financial regulations, coordinating external audits, and implementing best practices in financial governance and control.
- Involve in other projects and duties as assigned related to the overall financial function.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education: A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field is typically required. A master's degree or professional certification (such as CPA, CMA or CA) may be preferred.
- Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial principles, accounting concepts, budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and financial analysis.
- Previous experience in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, financial reporting, or a related role is often required. Experience in the retail or beauty industry is a plus.
- Ability to analyse complex financial data, identify trends, interpret financial statements, and make data-driven recommendations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively present financial information, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to think strategically, identify business opportunities, and provide insights to support decision-making and drive business growth.
- Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems (SAP is a plus), Excel, and other financial tools and databases commonly used in financial analysis and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis to ensure data integrity and compliance with accounting standards.
