Job Summary:

The Manager, Manufacturing is responsible for managing the day-to-day manufacturing operation, which includes overseeing supervisors and direct labor, as well as maintaining a short/long term batch schedule.

Responsible for executing the manufacturing schedule, procedure adherence, safety compliance and communicating with other departments as necessary.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Ensures staff is well trained with regards to Safety and Quality

Ensures compliance with safety codes, policies, and procedures of the Company and standards established by Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Works in partnership with the Bulk Planner to prepare the Manufacturing schedule.

Ensures proper scheduling of trial and launch batches to meet project timelines.

Executes the manufacturing schedule, ensuring the most efficient use of resources.

Investigates any batch upsets or non-conformances and prepares a formal report.

Implements corrective actions to safeguard against any defects, product contamination or material/component mix ups.

Drive regular cadence of meetings with maintenance to discuss PM schedule, equipment breakdowns, and corrective actions to improve equipment uptime.

Ensure all incidents, near misses and safety concerns are reported immediately.

Follow the Manufacturing schedule and reports on any delays that may extend a run beyond its scheduled completion date.

Provides suggestions on process improvements and implements improvements prioritized based on business needs.

Take employee disciplinary actions as needed.

Working Relationships/Key Stakeholders:

  • Daily communication and collaboration with Bulk Planner, Supervisors and Compounders
  • Working closely across departments with Quality, Warehouse, Planning and Maintenance.

Financial Accountability

  • Continuous improvement in operational efficiency and cost reduction
  • Minimize Waste
  • Safeguard against Compounder errors that could result in quality issues.
  • Work with vendors and organization to maximize value and maintain stock of critical supplies.
  • Adherence to Manufacturing budget, with regards to supplies, OT management, capital expenses

Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Four-year degree in physical sciences or engineering required.
  • 3+ years of experience in supervising or managing batch manufacturing operations in cosmetics or related pharmaceutical/chemical industry.  General knowledge of cosmetic formulation and equipment operation.
  • Trained and experienced in cGMP.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must demonstrate a desire and ability to lead other people.
  • Computer Skills - must be familiar with MS office.
  • Must be able to apply root cause analysis for problem solving.
