Key objectives of the role: 

Social Value Creation Division was newly set up in January 2019 aiming to accelerate social value creation through our business globally. And Sustainable Environment department is responsible for environmental area.  It aims to protect our living, beauty of the Earth within sustainable environment.

As part of the Sustainable Environment Division, you will focus on instigate change through our business units by creating value in the sustainable environmental area, and be responsible for the management of project teams. As a manager, you will support Group Manager and lead the development of proposals and participate in sustainable development activities that build/enhance Shiseido’s corporate values.



Main areas of responsibility:

  1. Develop the strategy, actions and plan for the sustainable environment and accelerate social value creation in environmental areas through our business
  2. Develop and execute contents of marketing/business/social information relating to environment
  3. Lead and manage projects by driving and collaborating with our internal/external key stakeholders (brand holders, regions and key functions) to implement actions
  4. Track the progress and report internally/externally
  5. Manage the newly set up team and nurture subordinates/juniors to be the global talents (People management is not expected for this role)
  6. Topics of projects may include: Corporate climate strategies and initiatives (eg SBT, RE100, carbon neutrality), energy efficiency and renewable energy strategy, GHG (Greenhouse gases) accounting, Sustainable Supply Chains, GRI and CSR reporting, climate change mitigation, sustainable packaging, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), Sustainable Development Goals, etc.
  • This is not a people management role




  1. Ability to develop business/marketing strategies (not necessary sustainability areas
  2. Excellent/Proven Project management skills to work with people at different levels of seniority and from different cultural backgrounds(both internally, externally) and keep timeline for the delivery
  3. Independent thinker with active self drive, outspoken even to share difficulties and challenges
  4. Ability to communicate, write and understand English at business level
  5. Strategic thinking



Desired qualifications:

  1. A University degree, ideally in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Economics, Business or sustainability-related disciplines.
  2. At least 10 years of relevant work experience in the corporate sector, with a focus on sustainability issues, strategy, and/or reporting.
  3. Commercial skills and good business sense to be able to identify and seize opportunities in a challenging and competitive market environment. More than 3 years of Brand Marketing experience is a plus. 
  4. Excellent communication skills and able to work in a high-performing team environment, building relationships with other team members.
  5. Experience working in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies/international context.
  6. Business level Japanese skills (of written and spoken)
  7. Sound understanding of environmental sustainability challenges in multinational companies.
  8. 3+ years of people manager experience
